MATCH PREVIEW | U18s vs Hull KR
With five games to go in the first half of the Under-18s Academy season, Leeds Rhinos continue to battle at the summit of the table as Chev Walker's side take on Hull KR at Stanningley on Thursday night, kick off 7pm.
Two weeks on from defeating Huddersfield Giants in a convincing performance at Stanningley's Arthur Miller Stadium, the young Rhinos return to the local community club for the second of three consecutive home matches as Hull KR and St Helens both visit this month as they aim to keep up their winning momentum. The win over the Giants added to successes against Hull FC, Bradford, Castleford and Leigh already in 2026, and with results having an important role in which six clubs will be playing off for semi final and subsequent Grand Final spots, Walker's side are in a strong position to do just that ahead of the Robins trip.
Alongside Saints awaiting in a week, Leeds then look ahead to matches against Warrington, Wakefield and Wigan in the final three games before the season's splits - games which will be crucial as all four teams are currently battling in the top spots. Against Thursday's opponents, the Rhinos secured wins in their last two Academy meetings with the Robins, but had only won once before then as Hull KR won the 2023 meeting and managed a draw in 2021.
Hull KR come into round six of the season on the edge of qualifying as a top-six side, so results are as important now as they are in the next month.
The side bounced back from losing their opening games to Castleford and Wigan by breezing past cross-city rivals Hull FC in a 34-20 final score before picking up an impressive point on home soil against St Helens. Despite losing in a high-scoring 44-22 final score at the start of May, they once again recovered to beat Bradford by 50 points last time out before arriving in Leeds this week.
After taking on the Rhinos and Wakefield in testing games, fixtures against Huddersfield and Leigh give the Robins a chance to qualify for the top six - judging on how teams around them perform too.
